Creating Dynamic Content and "Picture of the Day" Albums

The image drop service makes it quick and easy to change or replace images in your albums. This means it is very easy for you to share new or dynamic content with your friends. Here is an example:
Let's say I am an avid photographer and I want to share my new photos with my friends. Instead of creating a new album and sending an email to my friends asking them to subscribe, I create a "Pictures of the day" Album. My friends can subscribe to this album once. Anyone subscripting to my "POD" album will get my new images next time they restart their browser or use the toolbar "option->reload sources" feature. There is nothing special about this POD album. We just use the image drop service to make it easy to publish new content and changes. Here is how:
  1. Let's say I start by selecting a set of three images I took with my digital camera. My digital camera saves the images with strange file names that end in ".jpg". I am going to rename these images to be "img1.jpg", "img2.jpg", and "img3.jpg". There is nothing special about these files name. I choose img1.jpg becuase it is easy to remember.
  2. Create a new album. For the purpose of this example, the name of my album will be "Andy's POD". Remember this needs to be a 'public' album. You can change the access setting on your MyPWS page.
  3. Add the images to the "Andy's POD" album.
  4. Now any time I want to change some of the photos all I need to do is:
    • Change the name of the new image file to be either "img1.jpg", "img2.jpg", or "img3.jpg".
    • Attach the new images to an email with the subject "Andy's POD".
    • Send the email to imagedrop@prowebsurfer.com.
    • Remember this is a public album. A PWS administrator will need to approve your album changes before others have access to them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Image Drop Service free?

Yes.

How much storage do I get?

You get 10mb of storage for free on our hosting service. This is enough space to store at least 1000 images taken with a typical digital camera.

I have a 10 MB camera. Will it work with the Image Drop Service?

Yes. When we receive large images we compress them so that their file size does not exceed 100K. These smaller images will still look great on the web and should down load really quickly. We do not store the original image only the compressed version. If you want to make prints, make sure you save the original version of the image.

How come my toolbar does not use my changes?

Once your receive email from the Image Drop Service you will need to either restart your browser and toolbar or use the toolbar's "options -> reload sources" feature.

Does the Image Drop Service scope new albums to be "public" or "private"?

By default, all new albums are "private". We do not change the access permission on existing albums. You can use your "My PWS" page http://www.prowebsurfer.com/pwswebsite/toolbar/priv/RegisteredUserContentAlbum.action to change the access permission.
